I first met Al Saia when I joined the St. Therese Toreadors 1963 after the break up of the Cambridge Caballeroes. He instructed the Toreadors up until 1969 when they disbanded. Twenty-six of the former Toreadors went over to Cambridge and joined the Don Juans. With the merger for these two different style horn lines, yet exactly similar in theme. It was Al Saia that honed the horn line into what could have been the rebirth of a new Cambridge Caballeros. But unfortunately the Don Juans disbanded less then two years later. I always believe one more summer of competition, the Don Juans would have been a powerhouse in the world of drum corp.
It has been a privilege to know Al, and an honor to been taught by probably the greatest horn instructor and music composer in the history of drum & bugle corps.
