I have visited this sight monthly since mid 2008. I have enjoyed it greatly. I have since communicated with Jack Marino and speak quite often with Mark Saia. I would like to wish all a Wonderful Holiday Season. I hope some day we can reunite to remember the days of old. I have never forgotten. They were the best years of my life. Sincerely, John (Gena) Generazzo

I marched with the Don Juans in the late sixties and was a member of the unit that won the Eastern Mass class-B championship in 68. I was an east Cambridge kid that got hooked on the drum line and drum corps in general watching the great Caballeros perform in parades in the early sixties. I played tenor drum for Al Cisco along with Paul Ciano and Joey Albano. Snare drummers were Billy Costa (now famous radio and TV personality in Boston), Ralph Ciano, Jimmy Boress, and Jackie D. Say hey Rodney! Hello Bobby Brown, not sure if you would remember me. It was sad to hear Jimmy and Buster passed away. What great memories. Al mentioned M&M at Binney Street. I remember drum and horn rehearsals at the Harrington school and Warren Pals before we got our own building. The corps definitely gave us kids a sense of belonging, pride, and accomplishment. I really miss those days.

Makes you want to cry to see how Hawthorne is Loosing and really not playing the high caliber shows they used to play. I would suggest going back to basics and playing Music that has the Hawthorne Signature to it. For some strange reason the New 2009 Hawthorne Senior Corps has lost the power and is slowly but surely loosing its established Fans. Whatever it Takes get the drill instuctors and horn line and drum line together and play some music like the Alumni Corps is playing. The Fans dont want Hawthorne to keep on loosing.

I'm kind of new to facebook, and I noticed that a lot of the friends from Everett H.S. were Toreadors. I added Jack Marino to my list got curious and typed in the Toreadors from Everett on the internet. So glad I did! What great memories. I always had a tough time dedicating my all since I was so much into sports too. I wish i had known about the reunion. It looks like it was a lot of fun. Ferg

Great to see familar names. Rodney, Dennis silva Twig, al Cisco feels like old home week. I started in the drum line of St Mary's Heralds camb. with the Ghost as my instructor. then on to the Don Juans and many great times and seasons with Al Cisco. Jimmy boress, and Buster were also in St Mary's with me and we all went to the Don Juans together. Both have since passed but I have many memories of them. Hope to hear from someone.

Here we go again? Come on now Hawthorne Cabs fell down to Fifth Place at DCA Championships. This is a disgrace. You can go on and on and point fingers at who is responsible for Hawthornes Lack Luster performances. It was not long ago when I would see the Hawthorne Cabs go into competition and everyone would make the statement they are the best they are unbeatable. Now I see another year go by and our Tremendous Hawthorne Cabs are in Fifth Place. In order to get back up to the top like the Cabs used to be something has to be done? I am sick and tired of seeing the Hawthorne Cabs getting shaken to fifth place? Very disapointed in the Cabs this year.

I have been following the Cabs for over fifty years and never ever saw them fall behind in the contests? This year 2009 they are being beat by Conn. Huricanes and Minnesota Brass are making Hawthorne look bad. It makes me feel sad to see Hawthorne getting destroyed by other Corps. At one time Hawthorne would take the field and every one would get scared and know that the Hawthorne Cabs would destroy them. Not so in 2009 looks like a real bummer for Hawthorne and all the fans and alumni. May I suggest getting new instructors a new drum line instructor and change the drill. Come on now how many times does Reading Bucs have to kick Hawthorne out of the standings. Its time to take heed and get all new instructors and a new program. We are sick and tired of seeing our beloved Hawthorne get shoved lower and lower. Wake up Hawthorne Cabs.

It's great to see these comments. I just started a St. Mary's Annunciators Alumni Group page and a Somerville Annunciators Alumni Group page. We competed against the Watertown Cadets. My husband Allen Bourgeois taught them around . I have 2 pictures of the Watertown Cadets in the early 1970's.

Whats Wrong with the Cabs? I see they took Fifth Place this year 2008 in Rochester at the Finals. Whats Wrong with the Cabs? All of a sudden they are falling down in ranks? May I suggest getting new instructors improving their drills and play a program that the Judges will like? This is a disgrace to see Hawthorne Take Fifth place in 2008. Shape Up Hawthorne you have a Image and lots of followers. This season was a disgrace. Go back to the drawing boards and see if you can over take Reading.

Greetings Mr. Jack Marino from Beverly, MA
Just browsing through looking for some drum corps material and came across your wonderful web site. Brings back lots of memories. I marched with Cambridge 3 seasons, 1959-1961. Myself along with 6 others left the Assumption Cadets from East Boston & were ready for the big time as we at Assumption were barely a class C corps. What an experience. Al Saia really brought out the best in his horn line. He hooked me up with Rugi Rugoletti. Man I sure miss that man. He was a saint. For two opposites Rugi & and I got along extremely well. Performing at the Hatch Memorial Shell, Symphony Hall, Carnegie Hall and the 1961 V,F.W. Nationals will always stand out in my mind. Playing for J.F.K. in Boston was another memorable experience. After the show a bunch of the guys walked to Scolly Square to get tattoos and Dad's Tattoo Shop. I was the first in line. I had CAMBRIDGE CABALLEROS tattooed on my right arm while the others waited in line. Now get this, After I was done ALL the other guys dissapeared. No B---s. I guess the blood changed there minds. I can go on and on and on about my experiences with the Cabs. All I can say is it's a joy when I can read about the old days with the Cambridge Caballeros. A few years ago I had an accident where I broke my front teeth, both upper and lower and had to have surgery on my lips. At the time I was playing with the Legends of Drum Corps, Princemen Alumni and........................St. Kevin's Alumni. Wow, we were enemies at one time but as it turns out, I really met a bunch of really nice guys and gals. Needless to say I had to give up playing. When I finally healed and picked up my baritone, it sounded like two cats doing dastardly deed on a hot tin roof. Please keep your web site going for all us oldies.
Thanks. John Marotta

I was a member of St. Mary's Annunciators that was re-formed (circa 1955) after the Lawless and Keough families broke away from the church sponsored corps to form the Caballeros. Mrs. Keough (wife of Dick Keough the founder) told me she still had Caballeros uniforms in her closet in 1970 ??

Interesting site! I marched with Cambridge the same years as tenor drummer Al "Cisco". I played 1st Bari with the Cambridge Caballeros. Fond memories for me are: Listening to Arthur Fiedler heap praise on our music and watching Al Saia beam with pride on stage at Symphony Hall, Boston. Marching to the drill provided by the great Hugo Evarelli of Hawthorne fame in the Orange Bowl in Florida. Performing at Carnegie Hall in New York. Beating Garfield twice in 1962.

Surfing came across your website. Former Imperial, we had a reunion of our own, check our website, www.masscorpslinks.com. We're trying to get something going again to pass on to our kids an grandkids. We're having a fundraiser April 26th in the "other word" south shore. remember going through the tunnel or over the bridge was like going to another world and a trip to Lynn was a big thing? Oh for simpler days. Good to see other corps have stayed in tough through the years. We almost got you at the Eastern Mass Finals in '65

One of the best corps I ever had the pleasure to teach, one of the hardest working group's I know. Remember Binny Street by the railroad track"s what a site. I will also never forget we had our own bulding for horn and drum rehearsal's. We had the mayor on our side he was on the board. I guess I will always favor the drum line but maybe that's because I taught them - Cisco

Hi Jack, Great to see those pictures. I haven't seen those in 30 years and it's just like yesterday. I don't know if you remember me but I played baritone with the Toreadors in 66 and bass baritone in 67,68, & 69. I've always wondered what happened to everyone. Those were some of the most vivid and happy memories. The only people I have ever seen over the years was Joe Albano and Bill Perkins ( at Kelly's in Saugus). I have followed drum corps off and on over the years up until 27th disbanded. I went the thr 94 DCI finals which was great. Since I go to the Manning bowl each year. ( I try to be upbeat and say I like what I see happening but ) Anyway, I thought I would just touch base and if there is a reunion please let me know. Thanks, Bob PS. I have a very few pictures my mother had put in a scrapbook years ago (mostly of me of course) but I haven't scanned them onto the PC yet.

Hi Jack, great job on your site, I've been hooked on Latin style music since my early 1960's days in the Muchachos Drum & Bugle Corps of Manchester, NH. We too were patterned after the one & only Cabs in 1963 and continue today as a small Senior parade & exhibition corps. I remember hearing the Cambridge Cabs on an old Fleetwood LP from way back when and also remember the Don Juans. Thanks again for sharing these great drum corps memories. Best wishes, Ken Vachon
